Ancient Hindu scriptures like Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Vedas refer to this place as Prayag. The word Prayag means confluence and Allahabad is the cusp of the rivers Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. Located in the state of Uttar Pradesh this is the seventh most populated city of the state and second oldest city in India. Allahabad is said to be the heart of Hinduism, therefore it is also famous as “Tirth Raj”. As it is situated on the banks of the great rivers of India, Lord Brahma, God of creation chose Prayag to perform Pakrista Yagna at the beginning of creation.
