Imphal International Airport is the second international airport built in the northeastern region of India, after Guwahati and the third largest airport in the region. Located in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, the airport connects northeastern India with the major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and international city Mandalay. The airport is suitable for 'C' type (Airbus 320 or 321) aircraft operations in all weather conditions. It is also suitable for aircrafts such as the ATR42, A320, A321, A300, and Boeing 737 NG series. Imphal International Airport comes under the administrative control of Airports Authority of India.
There is a common terminal building for domestic and international. There are two departure gates and two arrival gates at the airport. The departure section can service up to 600 travelers, while the arrival section services up to 350 travelers. The domestic airlines operating at airport are Air India, Jet Airways and Indigo. Golden Myanmar Airlines is the international airline which connects Manadalay to Imphal.
Kangla in Imphal was the seat of kingly governance starting from the rule of the legendary God-king, Nongda Lairen Pakhangba in 33A.D to Maharaj Kulachandra in 1891A.D. Standing as Manipur's pride, the fort was captured by the British and post independence, it was occupied by the Assam Rifles till 2004. The fort is reminiscent of Manipur's rich history and speaks proudly of its culture and traditions.
