Indore Airport, also known as Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, is a public airport located 8 kms away from the city of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The first flight began in the year 1948 and was directed from Indore to Gwalior, Delhi and Mumbai. In 1950, under the ruling of Central Financial Integration scheme, this airport was handed over to the Government of India. Thereafter, in March 1966 a new runway of 5600 feet in length was built with an investment of Rs. 15 lakhs to house larger aircrafts. In addition to this, night landing services have also been incorporated.
There are two terminals at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, viz
This is the domestic terminal of the airport and is highly developed. The airport has each and every latest facility. These include modern escalators, high-tech baggage handling system, lifts, escalators, etc. Airlines like Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo, Ventura Airconnect and Spicejet operate from this terminal.
All the cargo at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is handled at this terminal. All the amenities at this terminal are also highly maintained. These include huge warehouses and other facilities under high security, which enables and ensures safety of the products as well as passengers.
Housing an iconic 25 foot tall idol of Lord Ganesha, Bada Ganesha Temple is one of the must see tourist attractions of Indore. The statue of lord Ganesha here is believed to be the largest in the whole world.
Annapurna, meaning the 'giver of food and nourishment', is a Hindu goddess who is worshipped by Hindu community since time immemorial. Dedicated to the lord, the Annapurna Devi Temple stands as one of the most believed pilgrimage sites of Indore that is thronged by devotees round the year. Here, the deity is seen holding a ladle and a container in her hands, which signifies that those who worship her, will always be flourishing with food and never suffer from hunger and starvation.
Rajwada Palace is a wonderful destination in Indore which is also known as ‘Holkar Palace’. The historical Palace was founded around two centuries ago by Holkar Dynasty. The grandiose wooden entrance is the major attraction of the palace and is covered with iron studs. The entrance courtyard in the palace is bounded by majestic galleried rooms. The palace is based near to the iconic Chhatris of Hoilkar dynasty in Indore.
Metro taxi counter, city car rental, tourist information centre, star cab taxi counter and AVA shop are available at the airport. Cabs and car rentals run continuously from the airport and are available at a very reasonable cost.
The Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is located at a distance of approximately 13 Kms from the Indore bus stand. Private buses and taxis are also available from the airport which run towards the major bus stands of the city.
The nearest railway station is situated at a distance 11 Kms from Indore Airport. Passengers can take appropriate form of transport from the airport to reach the railway station.
