Cochin International Airport built with public-private partnership is the first greenfield airport in the country. It was built and is now operated by CIAL (Cochin International Airport Limited). The commercial operations started on 10th June 1999 with International flight to Dammam and now it has become 4th largest International Airport in India in terms of international passenger traffic. Presently, it is estimated that an average of 900 flights per week take off from this airport to various destinations around the world. Over 18 International carriers offer direct flights to the Middle East, Malaysia, Singapore and direct connectivity to Europe, UK, United States, Far East and the Pacific region. The airport is the largest and busiest airport in the state of Kerala.
There are two terminals in the airport:
International Terminal: It handles all the international flights catering to upto 1200 passengers every hour. There are 23 immigration counters at the arrival hall and Airline computerized Check-in Counters for passenger’s convenience.
Domestic Terminal: This terminal complex has exclusive arrival and departure areas with a peak hour passenger handling capacity of 400 domestic incoming passengers and 400 domestic outgoing passengers.
Transit Lounge:Any passenger who has to wait for some hours in order to pick up another flight, can use the transit lounge of the airport.

The airport is located at Nedumbassery at a distance of around 30 kms northeast of Kochi on NH 47 (Kanyakumari-Salem Highway). It has an easy access to all three National Highways passing through Kerala namely, NH 47, NH 17 and NH 49. Therefore, it is well connected to other parts of the city by all modes of transport.
Connectivity by Train: The nearest railway station is Angamaly that is located at a distance of 8 km. One can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach the airport and vice versa.
Connectivity by Bus: Kerala State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) runs low floor Volvo AC/ Non AC buses every hour to and from the airport to various parts of the city. The nearest bus stand to the airport is Angamaly Bus Station located at a distance of 7 km.
