Veer Savarkar International Airport is also known as Port Blair Airport. It is the major airport situated in Andaman and Nicobar. This airport has been named after the great Indian freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. It also serves private jets since tourism is the main source of earning in the islands. India has regular flights to Port blair from its major cities of India which like Chennai, Cochin and Vishakhapatnam. The airport has also been the military and IAF airport in days of war crisis in Gulf. At present, the airport has a land area of 134 acres and is elevated 5 metres above ground.
There are two terminals at the Veer Savarkar International Airport.
This terminal has an area of 6100 sq.metres. In addition to this the terminal has two a capacity of 400 people during its peak hours. There are two boarding gates situated on the ground floor of domestic terminal. At present Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines operate flights from this airport. In addition to this, wheelchair and medical service can also be found at this terminal.
The terminal is still under development and there are no international flights from this terminal at present. It only has two counter, one of which is GOI Tourist Office, while the other is Andaman & Nicobar Tourism Guild.
