The Pune Airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a government organisation that takes care of its maintenance and security. It is situated inside Lohegaon Air Force Station premises and therefore shares its runways with the Indian Air Force base. Three SU-30 MKI squadrons of IAF (Indian Air force) namely Lightning, Rhinos and Lions are based at Lohegaon. The airport has flight connectivity with major Indian cities like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Nagpur. It also provides international flights to countries like Dubai, Frankfurt and Sharjah. The major airlines operating at the airport are Air India Limited, Jet Airways/Jet Lite, Indigo, Spice Jet, Go Air and Lufthansa.
Terminal 1 (Domestic): This terminal is used for all domestic flights that connect Pune to other major Indian cities.
Terminal 2 (International): It is used for international flights to selected countries like Dubai, Frankfurt (Germany) and Sharjah. In August 2008, as per a major airport modernisation plan, AAI built two new terminal buildings for departure and arrival of international passenger.

The airport is located in Lohegaon at a distance of around 10 km north-east of Pune. It is well connected to other parts of the city via Pune Ahmednagar highway (MH SH-27) which is also called as Nagar Road.
Connectivity by Bus: The distance between Pune bus stand and Pune airport. is 10 kms. One can take the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) buses that run on regular interval of one hour from the airport. Also, regular buses are available from the bus stand to airport.
Connectivity by Rail: Pune railway station is located at a distance of 10 km from Pune airport. One can hire an auto or cab from the railway station to reach the airport.
Other transport facilities: Pre-paid taxi services, general taxis, Radio Cabs and Inter State car/taxi services are available outside the terminal building.
