Sao Paulo Guaruhlos International Airport is an international airport which serves the city of Sao Paulo in Brazil. The airport was originally known as “Sao Paulo Guaruhlos Governador Andre Franco Montoro International Airport” after the former governor of Sao Paulo state called as “Andre Franco Montoro. The airport has been re-branded as “GRU Airport” recently in 2012. GRU Airport is a very busy airport and it boasts of a mammoth 31.4 million passenger capacity per year. GRU Airport is the busiest airport in Brazil as well as the Latin America.
GRU Airport is home to four different terminals now. These terminals are:
This is the oldest terminal at the GRU Airport along with the Terminal 2. This terminal is mainly used for domestic flights and is not equipped with world class facilities and technology.
Terminal 2 is very much similar to Terminal 1, both the terminals shared the domestic and international flights before Terminal 3 was opened.
Terminal 3 is considered as the most important building inside the GRU Airport. This terminal was delivered on May 11th 2014 and has already increased the capacity of the airport drastically. All the international flights are assigned to this terminal as it is equipped with all the latest facilities and technology.
This terminal is renovated cargo terminal. A bunch of cargo terminals were worked upon to come up with the Terminal 4. Earlier it was not meant to be a permanent terminal, but now it is being used as a permanent terminal at the GRU Airport.
GRU airport is easily accessible through a number of modes of transportation. A passenger can opt for any of the following facilities to travel to/from the airport.
Passengers can find taxis in abundance at the entry and the exit of the GRU Airport. Guarucoop is a cooperative of taxi drivers which offer great taxi services outside the airport. These taxi drivers avail special concession to exclusively serve the airport.
Shuttles operate between the city and the airport throughout the day.
Although there is no direct subway train to the airport, yet there is a station called as Tiete very nearby to the airport. There are frequent scheduled buses from the subway station to the airport.
State transportation company offers regular buses to serve the passengers of the airport.
