Shanghai Pudong International Airport is the main international airport in the city of Shanghai in China. The airport is a major aviation hub not only in China, but in the Asia continent as well. The airport, which is managed by Shanghai Airport Authority, houses two passenger terminals with three runways parallel to them. There are renovation plans in place, following which there will be three different terminals to cope up with the increasing traffic. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is served by three different runways of length 4000 metre, 3800 metre and 3400 metre respectively.
This terminal was inaugurated in 1999 with a total runway length of 4000 metre, it also includes a cargo hub to house all the freight. Terminal 1 boasts of having a area of 280000 square metres with a capacity to hold 20 million passengers.
This terminal started to operate in 2008, when a third runway was added to the pre-existing runways. This terminal offers a mammoth capacity of 60 million passengers and has helped the airport in coping up with the ever-increasing traffic of passengers as well as air planes.
Shanghai Pudong Airport is well connected with all the major transportation modes. Different modes of transportation to and from the airport are:
The airport is connected to the Hongqiao International Airport and other parts of the city through Metro Line 2. The Metro line 2 is indicated by the green colour.
