Visit Golden Bridge

The British took all pain to leave their footprints in India before bidding adieu to this varied gigantic landmass. Though most of those masterpieces have stood the good and worst of times, yet they have been restored with perfection as symbols of incredible India. One such name is the Golden Bridge, which connects Ankleshwar to Bharuch by crossing Narmada River.

Golden Bridge was built in 1881 by the British in order to enhance access to trade and administration officials in Mumbai. Though the bridge witnessed natural calamities like floods and earthquakes, yet its 134 year old structure never took a back seat while providing daily transportation between Ankleshwar and Bharuch. The name Golden Bridge is attributed to the fact that high quality iron featuring excess strength and resistivity was used for its construction work.

Some important points pertaining to the Golden Bridge are:

  • the bridge plays an active role in the history of Bharuch,
  • though it was built Bombay-Baroda-Ahmedabad Railway Line, yet it could not be sturdy enough to withstand the load of freight trains and
  • apart from being a connection between two towns, the bridge also serves as a tourist spot that opens up to prismatic views of Narmada River.
