Widely known as the “City of Temples” or “Choti Kashi”, Bhiwani is a beautiful town of Haryana. Created in 1972, Bhiwani district has played an important role in the politics of Haryana and has given three Chief Ministers to the state.
Bhiwani was founded by a Rajput King, Neem Singh and he named the city after his wife’s name Bhani. Later on, Bhani was changed to Bhiwani. It has been an important center of commerce from the time of the Mughals.
The city had played a major role in the struggle for independence. Among other famous personalities, the city is a hometown to three of Haryana's chief ministers: Banarsi Dass Gupta, Bansi Lal and Hukum Singh. Pioneer leaders of the city like Neki Ram, Ram Kumar, Uma Sharma, Gokul Chand, Fateh Chand, K.A. Desai and Babu Gupta actively participated in Satyagraha of Bardoli. Bhiwani City Guide is incomplete without a mention of its rich heritage. It is indeed a remarkable place having high historical and religious values. The place is also famous for housing one of the 12 holy Jyotirlinga shrines in India.
The city also excels in sports. It has always been a center of school for boxing. Almost all of the members of the Indian Boxing Squad came from SAI hostel in Bhiwani.
