Also known as Chhota Talaab, the lake was constructed in 1794, under the commission of Chote Khan, a minister of Nawab Hayat Muhammad Khan Bahadur. Though pollution is gradually depleting the water of Lower Lake, measures are being taken by city officials to keep it clean and healthy. The lake is enclosed by human settlements from all sides and can be easily accessed from any part of the city.

Some facts people should know about Lower Lake are:

  • the lake is located to the east of Upper Lake,
  • the lake possess a catchment area of 9.6 square km, and
  • presently the maximum depth of the lake is 10.7m.
