The temple was the only thing to have survived when the rest of the city had fallen to pieces. It was there till the reign of Chandragupta Vikramaditya, who located the city of Ayodhya solely because of this temple. Since the Nag-Kanya was a devotee of Lord Shiva, the festival of Shivratriis celebrated in full swing here. It is also famous for its architecture and scenic beauty.
