Shahpur Kandi Fort is one of the prominent attractions of the city attracting large number of tourists round the year. This Fort is well-known due to the widespread siege laid down by the Mughals in the 18th century. It is said that Akbar, the third Mughal emperor was crowned in a garden near Gurdaspur.The city is believed to have been founded by Guriya Ji in 17th century and thus was named after him as Gurdaspur. This place is very close to the border with Pakistan and was the location of my battles in the various wars between the two neighbors.
