One of the most famous forts of Rajasthan, the Amber Fort (or Amer Fort) is located in Amber which is 11km from Jaipur. It was built in 1592 CE by Raja Man Singh and was later expanded and renovated by Raja Jai Singh I. The fort has been constructed using marble and red sandstone. In spite of the fact that the outer view of the fort may give you quite an old look, you’ll find it beautifully decorated inside. The Maotha Lake situated there itself adds to the grandeur of the fort.

You’ll see influences of Hindu and Muslim architecture at Amer Fort. The fort has four different parts having separate entrances out of which Suraj Pol or Sun Gate is the main entrance to the palace. The Kali Temple which is also called as Shila Devi Temple is located right at the entrance to the main palace grounds. Other prominent buildings like Diwan-i-Aam (Public Audience Hall), Sheesh Mahal, Sukh Mahal await you inside the fort. The Magic Flower Fresco is an interesting attraction to watch out. Visitors can enjoy elephant rides available here so as to have a one of a kind experience.

Bollywood Connect: Certain scenes from popular movies like Bol Bachan, Veer and Jodha Akbar were shot here.
