A popular wildlife destination, Jaisalmer's Desert National Park is one of the largest national parks in Rajasthan. Spread over an area of about 3162 square kilometres, it showcases rich flora and fauna of the Thar Desert. Around 20 per cent of the park area is covered with sand dunes consisting of craggy rocks, compact salt lake bottoms, inter-medial areas and fixed dunes.

Some of the commonly seen animals in the park include blackbuck, wolf, chinkara, desert fox, Indian fox, hare and desert cat. Also, one can witness a huge variety of birds such as eagles, falcons, vultures, kestrel, harriers etc. However, the great Indian bustard which is the state bird of Rajasthan is the centre of attraction among visitors.

  • Jaisalmer Airport is located at a distance of around 47.2 km from Desert National Park.
  • For visiting the park, you need to take a prior permission from the Desert National park office and office of the District Magistrate, Jaisalmer.
