The yellowish sandstone built Jaisalmer Fort casts a magical veil over the city. The otherwise desolate landscape is brought to life by this fortress whose magical golden hue and majestic structure appeared in Satyajit ray's most popular film − Sonar Kella. The area inside the fort is a maze- like interconnecting Jain temples that date their origin to 15th and 16th centuries. The temples are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankars and therefore happens to be the most revered pilgrimage sites by Jain community. Built on the lines of world famous Dilwara style of architecture along with animal and human figures curved in details on the walls signify the archeological values attached with the temples. The ever dazzling yellow sandstone of Jain temples in Jaisalmer Fort are treats for all inquisitive eyes.

To take a tour along the impeccable Jain temples of Jaisalmer:

  • take a cycle rickshaw or an auto rickshaw from any part of the city,
  • reach before 12 noon, as the temples remains open for public viewership till 12 noon and
  • Keep some cash ready to be paid at the entrance if you are carrying a camera.
