The ceremonial drum kept in an altogether separate section is the major highlight of the museum. It suggests that actual Nagaland tribes originated from the shores of Sumatra. There is also a dedicated art gallery that displays beautiful and unique paintings of local artists. Naga Morung, hut models of varied Naga architecture along with bamboo- made musical instruments are other interesting objects showcased in Kohima State Museum.

Tourists should keep in mind that:

  • The museum is located at Bayavu Hill,
  • It is around 2km away from the main Nagaland town,
  • The museum is a must visit for historians as it traces the art, culture and tribal life of Nagas, and
  • It remains open on all days except Sundays.
