Kumbakonam is an urban town popular for prominent temples built in the Cholas and Pandyas age. The city is located between the two rivers, Arsala and Cauvery, in the Thanjavur district in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Mahamaham Festival at the Mahamaham Tank, that takes place every twelve years, is the biggest festival in the city and attracts tourists from all over the country.
