Visit Leh Palace
Also known as ‘Lhachen Palkhar’, the Leh Palace was constructed by Dharmaraja Singey Namgyal in 1600. It served as the residence of the Namgyal dynasty until the mid 19th century, after which the royal family permanently shifted to Stok in 1846. A 9-storey regal edifice, it is almost in ruins now, but still showcases the rich history of Ladakh.

Its architecture is similar to the Potala Palace of Tibet featuring wooden balconies and massive walls.
The palace has a museum that boasts of rich collection of :
- jewellery
- Chinese Thangkas (some of which are over 450 years old)
- ceremonial dresses
- crowns
Few pointers for visitors:
- The palace is open all days of the week from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Entrance Fee: Rs. 15 for Indians & Rs. 100 for foreigners.
