As a mark of respect for Buddha and Buddhism, the King had the gompa built above his palace. Apart from the gold statue, the monastery also features an assembly hall and temple with frescoes, paintings and statues of Buddha. Several ancient manuscripts, which hold great religious and historic significance, can be seen here. It enjoys an unruffled and scenic location, thus adding to its popularity.
