One of the most revered places of Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar is among the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva in India. It is nestled beautifully at the confluence of the Rivers Kaveri and Narmada. Omkareshwar is basically a Hindu temple which is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is just 20 Kms from Mortakka and is situated on an island called as Mandhata or Shivapuri and has the shape of the divine “OM” symbol.
Omkareshwar means "Lord of Omkaara” or the “Lord of the sound of OM”. The temple is thronged by numerous visitors especially at the time of Mahashivratri. Omkareshwar City Guide is incomplete without a mention of its rich heritage. Siddhanath Temple, 24 Avatars, Shri Omkar Mandhata Temple and Ranmukteshwar temple etc. are prominent pilgrimage places of Omkareshwar.
