Visit Jagannath Temple

Built on the same architectural lines of Jagannath temple of Puri, the Jagannath temple in Ranchi is an equally important pilgrimage centre and major tourist attraction of Jharkhand. The construction work of the temple was completed by the king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur, Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo on one of the holiest days of English calender, 25th December in the year 1691. Since then it has been an eminent tourist attraction in the whole of Jharkhand.

A huge procession and fair during the time of 'Rath Yatra' happens to be the most stunning sight of Jagannath temple. Devotees from near and far of places gather here to catch a glimpse of the gigantic Rath that carries Lord Jagannath in its holy seat. Though one has to take the pain of climbing few steps to reach the temple as it is situated on a hillock, but on reaching there, it promises to steal the breathe of tourists with its holy ambience and peaceful environment. However, there is also a motorable road constructed for the convenience of travellers.

Remember that:

  • Jagannath Temple is an ideal place of worship for religious minds,
  • no entry fee is applicable to visit the shrine,
  • it remains open all days a week and
  • total visit duration can be between 1 and 2 hours.
