Formerly known as Ganapathipuram, Sulthan Bathery is an ancient town which is located in the state of Kerala in Wayanad district. The place was previously known by the name of Sulthan's Battery after Tipu Sultan of Mysore had occupied the region and used the Jain temple, located here as a battery during the 18th century. It is one of the largest towns in Wayanad District.

Sulthan Battery is also the centre for all tourism and commercial activities in the district. It is situated on the Kozhikode - Kollegal National Highway and is close to other beautiful places: 98 Kms from Kozhikode, 100 Kms from Ooty and 115 Kms from Mysore. Sulthan Battery Travel guide is incomplete without a mention of its rich cultural and spiritual legacy. The city houses the grandiose idol of Lord Ganesha in Ganpati temple and the Mariyamman Temple. Majority of the population of the town consists of tribal people and the economy is largely dependent on agriculture.
