Tiruchirappalli, famously called as Tiruchi and Trichy, is a busy and bustling city with age-old churches, temples and monuments. This ancient capital of Cholas passed its way through Pandayas, Sultanates and Britishers, that now holds a significant history. Trichy has notable attractions. Ranganathaswamy Temple situated in Srirangam, dedicated to Hindu Lord Vishnu, has 21 carved gopurams (towers) making it the biggest temple in India. Another attraction is the Rock Fort with the Ganesha Temple at the top: Ucchi Pillayar Temple. Proximal to the temple, Our Lady of Lourdes Church is a British masterpiece with detailed architecture. Other places to visit include the Anna Science Centre Planetarium, Kallanai Dam, The Rail Museum and more.
