A very beautiful city to visit, West Midnapore is located in the state of West Bengal and is full of references to the various mesmerizing spots and the rich heritage of the areas like Chandrakona, Kurumbera Fort, Nayagram, Malancha, Umapati Shiv Mandir, Tamluk, Jhargram and Dantan among others. It is a district in the state and also the headquarters of the district. It is one of the southernmost district of Burdwan divisions and one of the three civil divisions of the state.
The district consists of four subdivisions called as Kharagpur, Ghatal, Medinipur Sadar and Jhargram. The North and north-west area of the district is a part of Chhotonagpur plateau in its eastern end and is sheltered with hard laterite stone. The four major rivers which flow through the region are Hooghly, Cossye, Subarnarekha and Rupnarayan.
