Popular attractions in New Delhi

  • Jama Masjid

Located in one of the oldest and busiest corners of Old Delhi, the Jama Masjid is the largest and best known mosque in India. Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, its construction started in 1644 and completed in 1658. The masjid comprises a courtyard that can seat up to 25,000 devotees, three large gates, four towers and two 40 metres high minarets.

  • Akshardham Temple

The touch of spirituality and remnants of 10,000 years old Indian culture and tradition has been beautifully engraved within the Akshardham Temple complex of New Delhi. Dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, the temple is a brilliant masterpiece of ancient Indian architecture and timeless spiritual messages. A trip to Akshardham Temple is not only considered to be a pilgrimage tour, but also a historical voyage that leaves you truly astonished.

  • Connaught Place

A trip to the national capital would be incomplete without a tour of the famous Connaught Place. Fondly known as C.P, the shopping area is a paradise for shopaholics and food lovers. It is one big scene of brands, retail outlets, eating joints and hang-out options. The heart of New Delhi with its colonial British-beat suits every local and tourist, business and leisure traveller. Ever since its establishment, the market has been one of the largest of its kind in India. The horseshoe-shaped market was thought to be a sign of good fortune for both shopkeepers and shoppers.

  • Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

One of the prominent Sikh pilgrimage centers in Delhi, the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is located on Ashok Road with close proximity to the Connaught Place. The history of this gurudwara dates back to the 17th century, when it was the palace of Raja Jai Singh. It is said that in the year 1664, Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji, the eighth Sikh Guru came to visit the King and cured people who were contracted with smallpox and cholera epidemic by distributing them water from the tank. That water tank, used by the Guru, still exists today inside the gurudwara and is believed to possess medicinal properties.
