Ancient Temple of Sati Ranik Devi, Surenderanagar
The Ancient Temple of Sati Ranik Devi was constructed by a very well known king, Raja Sidh in Surendernagar in lieu of paying tribute to Rakhengar, the husband of Ranik Devi. It is one of the most famous places to visit in Surendernagar, Gujarat where festivals like Navratri, Diwali, Holi and kite festival are celebrated with great fervor and merrymaking.
Legend says that Ranik Devi's marriage was fixed with Raja Sidh. However, Rakhengar, the ruler of Junagadh territory wanted to marry her and therefore kidnapped her and fled to forcefully married her. Unfortunately, a battle between the two rulers took the life of Rakhengar. On hearing this news, ranik Devi performed sati. And thus was born the Ancient Temple of Sati Ranik Devi, as a memory of respect and devotion of Ranik Devi towards her husband.
