The stay was good, staff was well trained and very friendly. Food was also good and location is perfect which is close to market and banks. The only issue we found that there was no breakfast ...

Article 1

Manipal is an extremely important medical research and technology nerve-centre of the country and houses Asia's largest and best anatomical and pathological museum, the Anatomy Museum. As a brain-child of Dr. S.S. Godbole, the museum was initiated under stringent research, perseverance, guidance and passion of Dr. Godbole, the first anatomy professor of Kasturba Medical College. Renowned anatomists have declared the museum as 'one of the best in the world'.

The museum is a wonder in itself and keeps students, professionals and tourists intrigued till the last second. It was started in the early 1960s and now houses a grand collection of 3000 original specimens of human body parts along with animal skeletons, bones, diseased-body parts, organs, cross-sectional specimens, radiographs, developmental anatomy models and several interesting features. Being clearly demarcated into the anatomy and pathology sections, the museum is an amazing educational process for eager minds.

A visit to the museum would be more interesting knowing that:

  • It was opened in 1954 with over 650 specimens from Dr Godbole's own collection.
  • Work on a digital or virtual museum is in progress.
  • It remains open from 8am to 6pm, except on public holidays and has a nominal charge for outsiders (5/- for children and 10/- for adults) while being free for students and faculty of the university.
  • Few of its collections are nearly half-a-century old yet show no signs of deterioration or decomposition.
