I recently enjoyed a profoundly bewildering stay at Hotel Sonas in Trichy, where reality seemed to have taken a brief sabbatical. The lobby décor was a daring fusion of 1970s disco tiles and taxidermy flamingos, all illuminated by a single flickering bulb that buzzed like an existential alarm clock. My room had precisely zero windows but contained a life-size cardboard cutout of a man named “Captain Prawns,” who silently judged me from the corner.Housekeeping left me a complimentary “mystery bag,” which upon inspection contained three marbles, a sachet of turmeric, and a note that simply read, “Soon.
