WHITE HILL

We visited Wayanad from 23-Apr to 25-Apr. Our selected stay was at White Hill based on earlier customer reviews. On reaching the home stay, we checked in to the room. The climb to the first floor is via a flight of steep stairs made of iron. My mother had a tough time climbing up. After checking in, when we went to the bathroom to freshen up, we found the door latch in the bathroom was broken. Also, the bathroom was stinking. For a family of 4, we had to request for additional towels. The initial feeling was quite depressing and I realised I had a mistake with the hotel booking. Mustafa, who looks after the property came after 30-45 mins and fixed the latch. By then, It was around 1pm in the afternoon. We checked if the home stay facility could prepare some lunch as we were hungry and not planning to go out for lunch. The market is about a 10 mins walk. Lunch however was not available. So we helped ourselves with whatever snacks we had and rested for a while as we were tired from the journey. We went sightseeing in the afternoon and returned by evening. By that time, it was raining heavily. On entering the room, we realized that the room was poorly lit. With only one dim tubelight, the room appeared very dark and gloomy. Also water had entered the bathroom making it very dirty. The bathroom was plunged into darkness as there was no electricity and the bathroom did not have power backup. Services in the home stay was pretty bad. We had to ask for each service and with no intercom connection, it was a painful experience. We checked if we can get dinner cooked at the guest house due to torrential rain, but the request was rejected. So we made our way through the water filled roads to go to the market for dinner. Next day, early morning complementary breakfast was some local dish (like chapatti) and curry. This was very unlike the multiple options that home stays would offer in all my previous experiences during other outings. We then complained about the facility to Go-Ibibo which was promptly responded. After the complains, the facilities improved on the second day of our stay. Lighting got better and promptness of services was good. Second day, we had idli, sambhar and chutney, which was decent. Overall, not value for money and not a pleasant experience.

We visited the place on the eve of new year and I would say we took the correct decision by selecting this particular homestay. Once we reached in the evening of 31st till we left the place, the hospitality provided was simply awesome. You would feel like home. The cleanliness of the rooms and the arrangements made by Uncle there was sheer awesome. Moreover the view in the morning from the place is a treat to you eyes. Whitehill is an excellent place to stay in kalpetta. It is very close to the market area at the same time it is in a quite and peacefully surrounding. The view from the hotel is breathtaking.The service given by the owner (mustafa bhai)is excellent. Food (breakfast) provided is very very tasty. Rooms are very clean.

This is very good place and ambiance inside the room is wooden one. Really enjoyed the place. Same it is shown in the pictures. The owner Mr. Ashik is very nice guy and very helpful. Breakfast they served Idli, sambar and vada it is more tasty and felt like home food really and not at all kerala style.
