Peaceful place. Good option for anyone who isnt keen on exploring the commercialized ooty town, especially families. Youngsters/bachelors may find the place to be less 'happening'. This place is 60-90 mins far from ooty town. The roads leading here are in decent shape. The property is not marked with sign boards. Locals nearby do not know the property by the name Windthistle villa. Only way to know is to memorise the villa from photos and spot it when one is there. Its basically a villa homestay with the owner (an elderly lady) living downstairs and 3 bedrooms on 1st floor given out to visitors. The rooms are really neat with all amenities needed to be comfortable. There are no food options nearby. The owner will be happy to offer home cooked food (at nomical cost) if intimated in advance. She can prepare veg or non veg. We really liked the food she made as it was very homely. The place is self service, (you use, you clean). The views from the place are charming. Mobile signals are very patchy. Owner provides free (working) wifi though. Overall a relaxing place with a slow pace.

Speaking about Windthistle Villa it is one of the best stay's that I have had in years. The villa is placed in an awesome location i.e Gandhikandi..bit difficult to find but the localities will help you find the location. The home stay is nothing more than a 5 * coverage for you. The rooms are very clean.Mr Mani and family took a lot of care for my family making us feel that they are a part of us.it was like home away from home.the food prepared by the family was the best that I have tasted in years.The amenities and cleanliness and service is A class and awesome.All in all Mr Mani and his family made us feel like home at a far place giving us the best things we can get. I would like to thank the family for awesome tasty delicious food and service.

Great place for couples. Was apprehensive at first, since we didn't find any reviews online. Turns out we were the first guests at Windthistle! Hosts were very welcoming. The view from this homestay was gorgeous. Surrounded by tea estates. Very serene and peaceful. Made a day trip to Avalanche lake, Emerald lake and the dam. We were blessed by good weather. Room and bathroom were extremely clean. Big plus for me! Highly recommend if you've visited Ooty, and instead want to explore areas around it. Highlights - Beautiful view of the sunrise from the balcony. Breakfast was delish. Cons: No restaurants closeby, need to inform hosts in advance to arrange for meals.

Located at such a scenic place, the view from balcony (which is spacious enough for 8 chairs easily) is breathtaking. It's perfect when you want a peaceful, relaxed vacation. It's more of a homestay though - the owner (a warm person) lives in the ground floor with family, and three rooms in the first floor are available for guests. Nevertheless, it's very well maintained and clean. Also has a fully furnished kitchen. Located about 25km from Ooty, they arrange transportation if requested - to pick up and drop at the bus stand, as well as to visit nearby places. They charge separately for this though.

Good place to stay but little far from Ooty..If u go after 6 very difficult to reach..and u dont get anything their..You have to carry from city.. If u take dinner Its costing 350 Non Veg and 300 Rs for Veg..if u are booked with Breakfast also still they will charge for more than 6 Years child Rs 200 Breakfast. Location View is good but combined Balcony and Common Area..No Room Service and No House Keeping.. After paying 5000 Rs also u have to clean ur plates after Dinner Or Breakfast. But if u want to enjoy the view its right place.

Pros: Good homely food, good service, neat rooms, kitchen to cook some basic food like Maggi, tea, etc. Friendly people to interact with. Cons: Small bedroom, kitchen and hall are shared space with other 2 rooms. Food is a bit costly by homestay standards. They also charge the same cost for kids above 5yrs(not cool) . 350rs for non-veg and 300rs for veg per head. Distance is far from ooty(almost 1hr from ooty) no shops nearby. But these are all mentioned in their website. So I went prepared and I am quite happy about the stay.

Our stay at Windthistle was extremely wonderful. At first we were apprehensive about the place but our fears were ill founded . It was clean, comfortable ,home cooked was very tasty ( according to our liking ) ,peaceful with breathtaking views all around us and above all an extremely gracious host Mr.Mani. Mani was kind enough to show us all the hidden beauties of his place which we would have missed had we stayed in the main city. We were very happy with our decision to stay there and didn't feel like leaving the place.

This is home stay they have 3 rooms . stay is Good but it is located approx 30 kms away from ooty if you are travelling by your own car and taxi then it's ok else it is difficult and costly to reach there. room is excellent but little bit small size no space to keep your luggage. No person available to keep your luggage upstairs. Food quality is good provided by them. They are caring for everything for guests . Natural view is ultimate from hotel .

Our stay at windthistle was extremely wonderful. The breathtaking views all around us ,the peace, the tranquility ,the delicious home cooked food and above all the graciousness of the host everything combined to make our stay a memorable one. The rooms and bathrooms were clean . Mr.Mani the host went beyond the call of duty and made sure that we had one of the most unforgettable stay there.

It has been my best and unforgettable stay at windthistle villa. It was a very quite . beauty full view point from hotel. rooms were very clean and very good looking. food was excellent and was prepared using fresh organic home grown vegetables. Mr manikandan and his family take care as their family .finally we felt like home. even though away from home. . and we enjoyed lot..

We had a very pleasant stay. The place is located very close to Emerald lake and Avalanche lake. Hospitality, cleanliness and homely food was an added plus to this home stay. The family was very friendly and Mr.Mani helped us with some great info and options to explore nearby places. Highly recommend this place, If you are looking out to explore calm serene places around Ooty.

The concern was that the location was not showing on the google maps. Its not a hotel its just a home. Its pretty much far from Ooty. We booked this hotel on the basis of the ratings but found not a good hotel to stay. They gave us the Cab facility but charged extra for that. It was pretty much expensive. Will rate 2.5 on 5.

It's like a Home away from home. I had a great time staying in Homestay. Rooms were very clean and this place has a beautiful and pleasent view. Mr.Mani and family took great care of me. Being a solo traveller they helped me in every way possible.

the best place for people want to relax and enjoy. The rooms are preety clean and decent facilities. Food was hone made and really good. Going to ooty will be little hectic however avalanchi and emarald lakes are near by to enjoy .

far from the city... its not a villa. its a homestay.. where u wash ur utensils on ur own.. overly priced... rest everything is clean and comfortable.. overall good.. no shops nearby..
