Had the worst experience of staying in a hotel in recent years! The day we arrived here, i.e. on 13th Dec, there was a sudden power-cut at late evening at around 7.30 pm. The hotelier explained there was short circuit and so electricity went off, and added that it doesn't happen frequently. Anyways, we had our dinner in the dark with just a candle providing us some light. Electricity came back around 10 pm. To our disbelief, next day again power cut happened in the late morning at around 11 am. We were not there in our hotel when it happened, but when we returned at around 1 pm for lunch, we discovered about the power cut and, on top of that, learnt that the chef was not available. I mean... it was just 1 pm! Were we too late for lunch? Our room was on 4th floor (room 403). There was no power, so we had to walk ourselves up to our room and serve ourselves biscuits for lunch. Power came at around 2.30 pm. And about hot water.. oh God! Forget 24x7. We barely got our hands into warm water during out stay in Thimphu. We had to wash our faces with ice-cold water in the mornings. And could not bathe during our stay. The only time they provided us hot water was the day when we were to leave for Punakha, that too, after an hour of asking them to provide us. Bottomline: If you are visiting Bhutan during summer, you may decide to stay here. During winter, definitely do not book a room here. You WILL definitely suffer.
