Let me start with saying I really enjoyed the stay but my wife didn't and my 5 year old daughter had mixed opinion on it. She loved the grounds but was not crazy on the sleeping quarters. Hornbill camp is literally a camp and you are put up in desert safari style tents built against toilets which are brick build. Everything is clean, but night time sees some creepy crawlies getting in and the bugs bugged my wife quite a bit. Saying she is not a fan would be an understatement. If you don't mind bugs you will enjoy it hugely. It is picturesque location, right on periyar riverside. The camp offers kayaking trips with a guide which is a must do and cycles to roam around the surrounding area. If you like adventure holidays this could be a mild relaxing family weekend listening to music of birds, the river and crickets comfortably sipping Chai starting at the river. Our Off season trip March-April with friends was peaceful but could have ended up a lonely since our group was the only residents there. Definitely not a one size fits all place but an excellent place for the right minded traveler.

A good getaway from Kochi at the foothills of the western ghats. The location is idyllic. The property is situated on the banks of the Periyar river. The River front tents with a small verandah to sit out, provide a good view of the river. It is best to visit this place in Jan/ Feb during the birding season. The Salim Ali bird sanctuaty is located across the river. The mellifluous chirping of the birds early in the morning and during dusk is a delightful experience. The tents have the basic facilities. The campsite also provides some basic games for entertainment such as Dart board and badminton. They also arrange for kayaking in the river. With the Bhoothathankettu dam a few miles down stream, the catchment waters are still and ideal for kayaking. The staff was also very courteous and helpful. This is an ideal holiday venue for families, as also for group of friends. Ideal for those who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and be in synch with nature.

This place is one with nature. Living areas are huge tents and with lots of natural light. Every tent is facing the water front and you can hear birds chirping away. Opposite the river you have the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary which is home to over 250 variety of birds including the migratory ones. Apart from this being a very serene location, the camp also has various activities like, kayaking, bird watching, plantation walks to name a few. You even get cycles to roam around near by. I would say do not go here if you are someone who loves luxury. This place gets you connected to the basics and that's the charm of it.

If you are looking for a place where you can find peace, very close to nature, and a get away from all your stress this is the place. This monsoon season is just awesome for just sit relax and hear the music of nature and the rain: service is very professional and food is really nice. Rooms are renovated and in excellent condition a tent will be enough for 3 adults easily. The kayaking activity will not be there till September since the dam is open. They offer cycles for a ride and this camp is very close to the boothathan dam and thattekad bird sanctuary.

Pleasant stay at Hornbill CAmp for one night. After the night fall, it becomes really thrilling as it feels like you are at the middle of the forest. We had stayed at the lake view tents. The view from the room is excellent. lake is just in front of the room. Also enjoyed complimentary kayaking at the evening in the lake. Overall experience is very good. Only the food quality served at dinner was not good and they charged as much as five hundred rupees per person which was really too much.

Just love the serenity of the bush and the Hornbill camp is nestled right in the middle of the stunning Kerala jungle. The staff are super friendly and made every effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible! The missing piece of the puzzle are the new a/c units that they are busy installing as the nights are a bit on the hot side (and then tents can also be closed fully to keep the few lingering mosquitoes away!)

An excellent place in the midst of nature. The whole setup is liberating due to the presence of Mountains, River, Chirping birds.. A good place to relax if some one is looking for peace & non-commercial tourist place. The staffs are very helpful & cordial especially Suresh Babu. Food is amazing. Local Kerala cuisine never tasted so good. Ideal for families & couples. Will not recommend for group of friends.

You can be entertained out there with outdoor activities like cycling, kayaking and also they have a few board games too. The location of this place is amazing, situated near a river. Staff is courteous and helpful. Great place to be specifically if you want to get out of the city life and into a quiet place with still a lot of things to do within the resort.

Very calm quiet and serene place, nice stay and best location. Service was courteous and prompt but choice of food was limited and there is a scope of improvement. Very near to Thattekad bird 🐦 sanctuary where we had some beautiful bird spotting. Worth visiting, revisiting. Go for atleast two nights stay.

superb weather contact 3 Days before going there so that they will arrange a permission from forest department for jungle view u will get vodafone network only other network users u will feel how life is good without network in mobile cycling, kayaking etc are good facility here and superb food quality

People there offer you a best hospitality. Briefing is done on arrival. Keeping up time will make both visitors and hoteliers happy. If want to enjoy kayaking be the last one on the kayak. Bird watching will add pleasure if you meet the expected birds or a disappointment.

A calm place , nice tents and very nice location. Food is expensive at site however many good options around Kothamangalam Town. Naturalist Praveen was excellent at helping us spot birds at Thatekad , Uralnthanni forest.
