My husband and I run a charitable school in our village of Sainji (Corn Village) for about 150 children, classes nursery to Seven, under our NGO, Garhwal Organization for the Upliftment of the Needy (GOUN). We also run a cafe/bakery in the village where guests can get local food, and enjoy Lori's Canadian baking. Yes, I, Lori am Canadian. I met my husband Kunwar in 2007, while I was conducting research for my doctorate in Anthropology, in another village. Kunwar was born in Sainji and is a respected leader in his community. He has been working since the early 80s to bring about positive changes for his fellow villagers. Kunwar and I have common interests in helping to better the underpriveleged, and so we were married in 2008. We have a lot of experience with hosting guests and volunteeers from India and around the world, as we have been doing this since 2009. Our passion is education, and we enjoy people from all walks of life. While the cottage is near the entrance to the village, it is only a hop skip and a jump to the cafe and the village. The beauty of the cottage is the serene location, and its beautiful view.
