Generator Amsterdam

Overall average experience at generator. The location is walkable from nearest tram station. One thing that i really didnt like was thr breakfast facility. There were hardly anything at the breakfast when i reached. The official time for breakfast on weekends is till 11 am. I went at 9:45 am and there were only few items left. 1. No coffee beans in the machine, no one to refill 2. No spoon, no fork, no knife 3. Everything was almost empty and nothing was refilled. I felt a complete waste of my 7.5 euros. In that i could have had a better breakfast outside in the city. Although generator brags about it I didn’t find it amusing at all. All i found was bread which i had with jam and scrambled egg. There was yogurt and flakes as well. The other thing inspite of the fact that i booked a premium room there were no soap/ shampoo or anything except for the bed.

Some points to consider before you book Generator Amsterdam: 1. Early check-in is impossible. Prepare to pay 6 Euros per bag if u want to store ur bags. 2. I paid 24 Euro for storing 4 bags for 2 hours. But spent 45 minutes putting in the bags in to lockers, and another 15 mins receiving them. 3. The check-in time is 2PM, but even if u have book mon thin advance, they will make u stand in a queue for at least one hour just to get ur room keys. 4. Beware of Andrey at front desk. he will rudely remind u that the fine print is in english. BOTTOMLINE: Don't book. get something good and less tacky.

You can't call it a Hotel or a Hostel, they are charging for the basic stuff like towel and all as they call themselves a Hostel, but are not even providing any basic Amenities which any hostel would, no common kitchen if you want to make something, if you want a cup of hot water you have to pay 3 Euro! I believe any Hostel or Hotel will not charge you for a cup of hot water. Rest, Location is good, Peacefull area, tram station is 1 min walk away.

Nice rooms although a little more cleaning of floors is required. Located right next to a beautiful park, will need to take a metro from the central station to get here.. best to go for 24/48/72 hour passes as they work out much cheaper and can be used across metro tram and bus. Should also do sandman walking tour when in amsterdam as its pretty good. Able to meet other travelers here to hang out with.
