The holy city of Haridwar is dotted with temples and religious sites. One of the most visited places in the city is the Bharat Mata Mandir. Dedicated to Mother India, the temple is an eight-storey building devoted to religious deities, freedom fighters, leaders and mythological legends. To pay reverence to the brave heroes who have sacrificed their lives guarding the honour of our motherland along with learning about our great historical warriors and legends, a visit to this great temple is a must. Located in Sapt Sarovar, the temple was founded by Swami Satyamitranand Giri and was inaugurated by our former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, in 1983.

Each floor has a separate theme to display. The first floor is home to Bharat Mata, seen standing on green earth with a blue sky behind her, draped in a beautiful sari, lotuses on her feet, four arms, enchanting eyes and white halo emanating divine power. The remaining floors exhibit:

• Second Floor (Shoor Mandir)- dedicated to the heroes of India
• Third Floor (Matru Mandir)- achievements of India's revered women
• Fourth Floor (Sant Mandir)- houses all religious saints
• Fifth Floor (Assembly Hall)- displays paintings
• Sixth Floor- displays all forms of Goddess Shakti
• Seventh Floor- houses various incarnations of Lord Vishnu
• Eighth Floor- dedicated to Lord Shiva.
