Munnar leaves one mesmerised with its exceptionally breathtaking landscapes and scenic beauty with the Anamudi Peak as a priceless jewel in its crown. At a height of nearly 2695m above sea-level, the peak stands tall with beauty and grace sprawling to as far the eyes can perceive. The colossal Western Ghats making its presence felt through dense terrains, thick forests, mild fragrances of tea plantations and exotic biodiversity, is a sight to behold.

Literally meaning 'Elephant's forehead', Anamudi is a haven for Asian elephants, Gaurs, Nilgiri Langurs and a host of several endangered species of fauna. Cuddled amidst Cardamom Hills, Anamalai Hills and Palni Hills, the peak lies within the Eravikulam National Park. The hill slopes are dotted with interesting plant and floral species. Being the highest peak of the Western Ghats, it has amazing views to feast the hungry eyes.

A trip to Munnar is just incomplete without touring the Anamudi peak. A brief knowledge about the place would be helpful:

• One could reach Anamudi from Munnar by bus, cab or any other conveyance, but the path to the peak requires trekking on grass slopes which is permitted up-to a distance of 2km. However, avid-trekkers could seek permission from concerned authorities to reach the peak-top.
• Leech socks are an absolute necessity for trekking to protect oneself from these parasites.
• Food and water should be kept handy too.
• Barring monsoons, round-the-year travelling is advisable.
• Bus services are the best mode of in-bound commutation to Munnar.
