We were a family of five, who visited this amazing oasis in the middle of the desert on 24th December 2016. Our initial plan was to just to stay one night and then try some other accommodation in the nearby Sam sand dunes area, or the main city of Jaisalmer. However, given the beautiful homely environment at Devi desert and the amazing hospitality, we extended our stay here for 3 nights! Location: This property lies about 18 kms. from Hanuman circle Jaisalmer enroute Sam sand dunes. It would roughly take you about 18-20 minutes to reach Devi desert resort from Jaisalmer city. We had the opportunity to meet the lovely couple who owns this resort, Mr. MS Vyas and Ms. Laurie K, who truly redefine the term “hospitality “. Ever present and proactive, they were attuned to the needs of every guest staying there. Food: The resort has an in-house restaurant called Mantra which serves À la carte vegetarian food, which happens to be quite delicious and wholesome. In case of special orders (eg. Desserts, sweets), please inform at the restaurant half-day in advance and they would do their best to arrange it for you. They even customize according to your needs, so in case you are inclined towards less spicy Indian food, please let them know in advance. Rooms: We stayed in what I think to be the best rooms on the property! The rooms are spacious, cozy and have colorful sarees draped from the ceilings! The bathrooms are big as well, with all the basic amenities, such as a shower, western toilet, and a huge mirror atop a wash basin. Everything is quite spin ‘n’ span. Since the rooms, are spread out, you get a sense of privacy as no two cottages are in close proximity to each other. Guests even get the facility of requesting for the e-rickshaw for their commute from the cottages to the main reception/restaurant area. Staff: the famous Rajasthani hospitality! MS and Laurie left no stone unturned to make sure, we were comfortable and had an enjoyable. Special shout-out to Ramesh Singh (restaurant) and the caretaker and the reception desk, and all the boys working there around the clock to make you feel at home! One memorable anecdote from the trip, is our long interesting conversations with Laurie when she used to discuss about her life in the US, and her “second life” as she calls it in India! In fact, I love the proactivity shown by her one day, as a glass got accidentally broken. I saw Laurie come running with a broom herself to clean up the broken shards. The reason why this was a surprising experience for me, is because Indians are usually accustomed to seeing owners/bosses/managers of any place ordering their subordinates around while they sit back. The sheer ownership shown by both Laurie and MS, blew me away! Must-do while staying here: Check-out the mini library in the reception area, play badminton, enjoy a swim in the pool, take a round around the massive property (circumference itself is around 500-600 meters!), enjoy the clear skies and wide starry expanses at night, beautiful sunrise right behind the cottages, chat up MS and Laurie about their journey! Must visit places around Devi desert resort: Khuri desert (jeep safari, camel rides), sunsets, night safaris, Gadi sagar lake, Jaisalmer fort, Sam sand dunes- however, we did not like sam sand dunes as it had a bad vibe to it. We found sam sand dunes area to be extremely commercial,However, if you are more of a family person, like us you would love Khuri deserts (clean sand dunes, attentive chai/tea walas, local folk singers) Thank you Laurie and MS for one of the most memorable stays! Hope to see you again in the future!
We went to the Sam but we could not feel peaceful there. It was very crowded place for us As a couple. So we turn back and find this very nice and peacefull place We immediately decided to stay here at Devi Desert Resort as it felt like home. The welcoming was very homely..The staff was very down to earth people. We stayed there for some time but after enjoying the services we were not willing to go home. Authentic food is served there along with the specialties of Rajasthan.. The core value of Rajasthan is felt there..The ethnic culture of the place is very natural…I will rate this Retreat Resort as 5 star one. The services provided by them are best next time we will be coming to Rajasthan, we will stay here. Of course the music and dance party was real fun we had our private mususion and dancer organizer by Resort was really best night of my life. And it is my recommendation to everyone for the this hotel. THANKS TO ALL STUFF OF.RESORT FOR MAKING OUR STAY MEMORABLE FOR EVER.
