Sikkim is a small but extraordinary Himalayan state known for its natural beauty, peaceful environment, and rich cultural heritage. Located in the northeastern part of India, it is bordered by Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, and West Bengal, which gives it a unique blend of traditions, languages, and lifestyles. Although it is the second smallest state in India, its cultural and natural diversity is remarkable. The mighty Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain, stands proudly within this region and is considered sacred by the people of Sikkim. The entire landscape of the state is filled with snow-covered peaks, deep valleys, waterfalls, natural hot springs, alpine forests, clear rivers, and beautiful lakes such as Tsomgo, Khecheopalri, Gurudongmar, and Menmecho. The Teesta River flows along the entire state and is considered the lifeline of Sikkim, supporting agriculture and hydroelectric projects. Sikkim is divided into four districts: East, West, North, and South. East Sikkim is home to Gangtok, the capital city, which is a clean, organized, and friendly hill town known for MG Marg, temples, monasteries, and tourism. North Sikkim is famous for its high-altitude locations like Lachung, Lachen, Yumthang Valley, Zero Point, and Gurudongmar Lake. South Sikkim features Namchi, Ravangla, Char Dham, and Buddha Park, while West Sikkim is known for Pelling, Yuksom, Rabdentse Ruins, and Pemayangtse Monastery. The history of Sikkim is deeply connected to the Lepchas, considered the original inhabitants. Later, the Bhutias migrated from Tibet and introduced Buddhism. In 1642, the Namgyal dynasty established the Sikkimese kingdom and ruled for centuries. In the British period, Sikkim became a protectorate, and in 1975, after a public referendum, Sikkim became the 22nd state of India, ending the rule of the Chogyal kings. Even today, many monasteries and cultural practices reflect the ancient kingdom’s heritage. The people
