Balkis Home Stay

We visited Coorg last weekend on 17th Sept and were pleased with the climate out there. We checked in the homestay at 3:00pm. The room was quite big and had a double bed, a wardrobe and a 22" TV. My room had 2 set of windows on 2 walls but there was no scenic view to get excited. On one side was a Kodagu lodge and their guest can look in your room and hence we kept the curtains on. The other side was an open view to the housing colony. The common balcony opens on the same direction. The homestay is located at walkable distance to Raja's Seat. Most of the restaurants are located near Bus stand area but thanks to our caretaker Riyaz, we had no problem in getting any food or service in our room. I personally feel that the room is quite good for a family stay but the price quoted @ Rs.1500 per night is quite high. I luckily got a discount and was able to book the room at Rs.700 and the room fits the price I paid. Pros: - Located well in the heart of the Madikeri. Everything is within 2 km range. - If you prefer no frills room, this is one of the best options - Parking space for one car ( not sure if they can manage cars of all guests) - Excellent room service. Riyaz is a very sincere caretaker Cons: - Not all room get sunshine. In a cold place like Coorg, rooms with windows facing west is a disappointment. Only room# 1 has 2 windows of which one faces East. - Lack of sunshine makes the wall near entry go damp. - I feel the price of Rs. 1500 is quite high. However its worth a visit at Rs.700-Rs.1000 range. - There is no easy access to restaurant nearby( until you have a car along with you ). You have to rely on the caretaker for it.

It is not value for money. location was okay as it is near to main city. It was mentioned that parking facility is available but after reaching there they told us as booking was done at last moment parking is already full. Asked us to park our car outside at roadside. Maximum 3 cars can be parked there. They said if you do not want to park outside, cancel your booking. I asked there as it is non-refundable booking, will I get my money back, They said it's your headache. So I decided not to cancel and somehow after a long argument we got parking inside. Overall experience was not good at all.

Food you need to order from outside being a homestay.You can also rent their kitchen to cook on your own 500/day.If you are booking all the 4 rooms together then its a perfect place as you don't have to share the balcony with others.No music after 10(they said some commissiner home is nearby....so bachelor's with party purpose need to rethink) .Staff is good and helping.Overall a good experience.

The homestay is really good. It is 1 km from Raja's seat, 4 km from abbe falls, and 2 km from omkaleshwara temple. So the location is also cool. The land lady is really nice. She is gentle and humble. Go Ibibo lets you book a room of 4. But 7 can be accommodated easily in a room, so you can pay extra for the remaining 3.
