The Pear County | Rooms & Camps

This place is for no frills travellers. There were apprehensions about staying in a tent, so checked the compact but cute container room too. Mr Vishal Sudhakar gave us a comfortable tent which was just the beginning of our great time. We drove past the small signboard, and to make matters worse google suggested we drive on. Locals helped us get to the place. Few hundred mts of driving through kachcha road followed, luckily our car has good ground clearance. We were greeted by workers loading pear fruit and finally reached a whitewashed building which was the kitchen and dining. Kindly dont get a bad impression at this point. We were greeted by the caretaker with a welcome drink - Mr. Subramanya, a warm hearted, help you with anything person fluent in Tamil, English and manageable Hindi, his staff knew good Hindi. We continued walking with the impression that it was a farm stay. Behold the beauty of multilevel tents amidst pear trees and a modest garden; the property was overlooking the whole Kodaikanal hill. There were no proper steps, but that's not you came here for, every tent or container room has its own campfire and barbeque. First tent had great view of the hills while for others, it was partially covered by pear trees. Relaxing on a hammock overlooking the well lit town and the private campfire were amazing. Inside the tent it was warm, attached bathroom was clean & basic. We did not ask for a menu or order, just listened to what they would serve us. Trust me, it was very tasty, add to it my habit of allowing the chef cook what they are comfortable with. Next morning we woke up very early, outside the tent it was cold. We had to light the campfire again, first time campfire at dawn waiting to see the hill again, fog, serenenity everything amazing. Hot coffee and then a short walk to another edge of the hill, breathtaking views of the valley - should not be missed. Walking back we realised everyone cultivated pear on our hill. Might have been an auspicious day, sermons from few religious places although at a distance could be heard real loud, and it was simultaneous !!! The warm hospitality, tasty south Indian breakfast, conversation about our onward journey, tips from the hosts were helpful. Hot bath and some more rest, woke up to the sounds of rain. Rightaway wanted to extend my booking for another few days !!! The property is large & awesome, go with an open mind, very romantic place. We din't crib about anything and let the hosts impress us, and they did a perfect job. Included everything advertised within the package.

About the Property: It's will be a different experience from our regular stay. We stayed in a family tent, where we only have 4 beds inside the tent and washroom seperately. Property is just opposite to Kodai hills and you can have nice Kodai hill town view from the property. Staff were also very helpful. Food: Breakfast is gud and for dinner they serve BBQ & Buffet with camp fire. No room service is provided. Overall food is good. Entertainment: If opting for Tent you won't have anything other than Beds, if opting for cabin you have TV. Cons: (i) Lights needs to be placed between cabin's & tents. (ii) Additional space should have been given for the tents. Overall the stay was good and perfect place for vacation.

Being far away from the town and in the midst of Pear garden, the ambience is excellent. We stayed for one night and one day. The stay would have been perfect if not for the blaring mikes from a Church and a Temple. We seemed to have gone on a wrong day when there was a festival and thus the mikes. The family tent was spacious. But, it would have given a more secure feeling if the tent did not have the gaps. The gaps in the tent make it theoritically possible for something to crawl into the tent. The campfire and the live barbecue gives memorable experience. Apart from the tents, the facility has container rooms as well. All in all, this location is a must try in Kodaikanal.

1 para won't be enough to review Pear County. The best place we ever stayed so far. Kodaikanal without Pear county would be a big miss. Tent, barbecue, pear trees, flowers, farm, fog, warm, trekking, camp fire, music, birds, nature, breakfast, dinner, games, view, support, care, love, respect. The best experience I gave to my wife. Manager Shanmugham Anna and the team really deserves appreciation. Pros: Everything I mentioned above. Cons: I didn't feel any still tent for kids may be difficult. Family with kids can opt for cabins.
