I am from Mawlai, Shillong. I was born and raised here, surrounded by green hills, fresh air, and kind people. Our home is in Mawlai Nongkwar, easy to find on Google Maps. If not, don’t worry we are near the Old Gate leading to Lynti Rim, the old road to Guwahati where our parents generation went fishing and picnicing. The road is still there, and if you like to go for a walk in this green and lush enviroment, we will be more than happy to join you. For many years, our place was more a tea shop kwai store than a homestay. People stopped by for tea and for the everyday things they needed. For generations, our family has been welcoming people, so hospitality comes natural to us. With our parents now retired, it’s the new generation’s turn to continue the tradition blending warmth, nature and tradition in our own way. Our place is right by the main road, which is actually a big advantage every 5 minutes you can easily catch a taxi, and there are small shops and restaurants all around. It feels lively and connected. At the same time, just a few meters inside our property, you step into another atmosphere: greener, calmer, and more relaxed. Sometimes you may also hear children from the neighbours playing part of the everyday life here. Our sit out is ready for you to enjoy fresh air and quiet moments. The garden is still under construction, but little by little it’s becoming a green corner we are excited to share. Our place has been transformed into a modern stay where nature and sustainability play a big part. When building the rooms and sit out, we tried to use as much local products as possible, keeping the spirit of the land alive. Please refer to the photos for a better idea of the rooms. Both are modern and include all things one needs for a comfortable stay: Room J with its own en-suite bathroom and a view of the garden and green scenery. Room S just next door, with a private bathroom across the small hall for you only, with your own key. This room has windows to the east and south, so in the cold winters it is filled with warm sunlight. The views from Room S are truly stunning. We would love for you to come, feel the Khasi spirit, and enjoy the warmth of our family whether as visitors, friends, or just guests passing through. Wan kai! Khasi for Come, be our guest.
