About Us
Kumbh Mela, a major Hindu festival, is one of the world’s largest congregations of pilgrims and visitors from around the world, seeking spiritual transcendence. It is held four times in four different sacred sites in the country during a period of 12 years based on the astrological alignments of Jupiter, sun and moon. Every three years, the locations for this festival keep rotating. In Allahabad during Kumbh Mela, the masses take a dip in the confluence of three rivers, Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna, known as Triveni Sangam; in Haridwar, people take a dip in River Ganga; in Nashik, Godavari River, and in River Kshipra in Ujjain.
According to the zodiac positions of sun, moon and Jupiter, the Maha Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 144 years, while the Purna Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. The Ardha Kumbh Mela is held every 6 years at Allahabad or Haridwar. This year’s celebration will be the Ardha Kumbh Mela and it will be held in Allahabad commencing from 15th January, 2019 to 4th March, 2019. It is considered that the sun and moon will be in the zodiacal sign, Capricorn and Jupiter will be in Aries or Taurus.
