Maldives Travel Restrictions

Maldives, which has been riding high on its recent travel success as a popular destination over the past years, has reopened its borders to all travellers from Jul, 15th 2020 and looks like the trend is continuing for 2021, despite some setbacks. Below you can find detailed guidelines of Maldives travel restrictions from India.


ELIGIBILITY: From India to Maldives
  • Tourists
  • Maldives nationals
  • Expatriates and their dependants with work permit

  • OPERATING STATUS:
    95% of the resorts and hotels are operational, with exceptions:
  • No travel between resorts, safaris and inhabited islands
  • All excursion activities are banned within Maldives
  • All non-essential travel between islands restricted

  • RTPCR TEST & VACCINATION REQUIREMENT:
  • MANDATORY negative RTPCR test report in ENGLISH, not taken more than 96 hours prior to departure. Children under 1 are exempted from this test.
  • NO mandatory quarantine on arrival.
  • Random voluntary PCR tests may be conducted at the airport, cost of which is borne by the Government of Maldives/
  • 14-day quarantine, if tested positive on arrival. This does not apply to: - passengers with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate, fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria or SK Bioscience Co Ltd. from Korea), Covishield, Janssen, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm or Sputnik V at least 14 days before arrival, - passengers with a positive PCR test taken at most 60 days before arrival and a recovery certificate.

  • VISA:
  • Free 30-day visa ON ARRIVAL.
  • Passport must have at least 1-month validity from the date of your departure to Maldives.
  • A valid return ticket and a confirmed pre-booking at a registered tourist facility. A booking is considered VALID ONLY for a tourist resort facility, live boards or pre-approved transit facilities.

  • PASSENGER OBLIGATION:
  • Passengers must complete a “Traveller Health Declaration”, 24 hours before departure at https://imuga.immigration.gov.mv/.
  • Short term business travellers must have RTPCR negative certificate, no more than 72 hours before departure
  • Expect your resort to have some rules, especially temperature checks on arrival, and masks to be worn indoors. Be sure to carry things like masks and hand sanitizer to avoid spending while on the island chain.
  • A health declaration form must be submitted prior to departure from the Maldives
  • If at any point, a tourist stays at a tourist guesthouse, they are required to take a PCR test 72 hours prior to their scheduled departure from the Maldives.
